William B. Surles- age 95, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2017. As a young man he enlisted in the United States Army Signal Corps during WWII. During that time he served in North Africa, Italy and was on ship headed to Japan when the war ended. After the war he worked for the U.S. Government for 29 years, specifically the Agency for International Development, of the State Department in Washington, D.C. During his career he served 2 years in Iran and 3 years in Indonesia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Beverly Surles; daughters, Rhonda Surles Lam and Vicky Surles (Jack Marshall); brothers, James Surles (Barbara), Carl W. Surles (Becky); sisters, Vivian Warren (Roger) and Norma Jean Surles; sisters-in-law, Ramona R. Moore and Gloria R. Jones and brother-in-law, Joe D. Richards.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 3pm in the chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home with Brother Jay Edgerton officiating.
