SUMMITT, William Shouse- Born March 6, 1927, in Louisville, KY, died December 3, 2011, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Thomas S. Summitt; brother, Marvin J. Summitt. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Collins Summitt; brothers, Donald Doris and Thomas Judy Summitt; sisters, Elizabeth Sherman Trauth; Gerri John Crain, and Jean Billy Scott; step sons, Harold E. and Andrew T. Parker, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. After serving in the Army twice, he returned to Louisville and worked as a carpenter until the age of 40, when he returned to school. He earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Psychology and Counseling, and in 1987, he obtained his doctorate from the University of Louisville. He retired from Crawford and Company in 1993 and formed Summitt and Associates. In 1996, he and Beverly moved to Ocala, FL, where he continued to operate Summitt and Associates until he became ill in 2006. In August of 2007, the move to Nashville, and Lakeshore, The Meadows occurred. Services will be conducted on Friday, December 9, 2011, at 2:00pm, at Christ Church Cathedral, 900 Broadway. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services and reception following the funeral. Special thanks to the caring staff of The Meadows. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alive Hospice or to the Stephen Ministry of Christ Church Cathedral. WEST HARPETH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY
