Walter F. Sill, Jr. age 85 of Hendersonville passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 9, 1932 in Pampa, Texas to the late Walter F. and Louise Sill. At a young age Walter was sent to live with his grandmother in Arkansas due to asthma.

While living with his grandmother, he learned that "a penny saved is a penny earned." His grandmother taught him how to look for treasures in the most unlikely places, which grew into years of being an excellent antique and collectible dealer.

Walter was an entrepreneur whose father taught him to, "never work for anyone but yourself." Some of his accomplishments include: president of both Pi Epsilon Phi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternities and he was given the award for the most outstanding service of the year in 1957-58. He loved and kept in touch with his fraternity brothers throughout his life. He had a children's TV magic show, owned a theme park, was a music and concert promoter, a successful real estate investor, won Citizen of the Year in Westmoreland TN and much more.

Walter joined the United States Coast Guard in his early 20's. His two favorite jobs were performing for the Coast Guard Elite and girl-watching as a lifeguard at Lake Michigan beaches.

He was described as a leader, provider, and true patriarch to his family. He loved the Tennessee Titans, playing golf, basketball, and going to flea markets. The family loved spending winters in Florida and regularly returned with a trailer load of treasures for the next auction.

Over the last few months Walter dedicated his time to his relationship with God and family. His life was about building memories that his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will cherish forever.

Walter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet Sill, his sister Ruth Ann Hyatt and her family, his loving children: Lynn Sill, Cathy (Steve) Shankle, Walter F. Sill III, Julie (Robert) Sill-Cogar, Rob Derrington, Angela Derrington, Jamie Laine Sill, Christian Nix, and Eve Pipkin; 13 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

A Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, November 11th with viewing from 11 to 3 and service immediately following, at Hendersonville Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at the Chapel of Memories at Hendersonville Memory Gardens with pallbearers: Steve Shankle, Rob Derrington, Robert Cogar, Chris Stewart, Tyler Deskins, and Jordan Dunn.

These arrangements were entrusted to Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home and Cremation Center 353 E Main Street Hendersonville, TN 37072 615-824-3855 www.hendersonvillefh.com 3 pm
