Verna "Vernie" Jones
Age 91, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016.
Vernie will be dearly missed by all who knew her. However, her memory will live on indefinitely in our hearts. Her legacy can be described by some of the following words; nurturer, caring, kind, generous, loved to laugh, storyteller, loving, and protective of her family to a fault. Vernie will be remembered for her tremendous skills in the kitchen as an excellent cook and baker.
She loved to share her gifts with as many people as she possibly could. In fact, on birthdays, her family and friends would receive their favorite homemade treats. Cooking for and gathering with family on Thanksgiving and Christmas were annual staples in the Jones household. Aside from her love of the art of baking, she also enjoyed quilting, hand embroidery, and several other crafts. When it came to her tastes, she always relished in a good piece of chocolate pie or German chocolate cake. She also loved to eat a hearty helping of white beans and cornbread. Food was her passion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and America Spinks; two brothers; three sisters; and her loving husband of seventy-one years, Elbert Jones, Jr. Vernie leaves behind her daughters, Judylane Spann, Dianna (Zack Miller) Watts; granddaughter, Mindy (Adam Roberts) Watts; sister, Jeanette "Cush" Flora; family members through love, Connie Alinikoff, David Stahl, Sherry Groves, and Val Gossard; and her grand and great-grandpets, two cats and seven dogs.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 3 p.m.-8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. A Life Celebration will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with interment to follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. All services will be held at the funeral home. HENDERSONVILLE FUNERAL HOME.
