Thomas Ewing Stamps, 94, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Grace (Fleming) Stamps, nine loving brothers and sisters, wife, Lerleen (Craighead) Stamps, son, Thomas Floyd Stamps, wife of 53 years, Uva (Cannon) Stamps, and granddaughter Jasmine Ferne Stamps
.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Gene) Howard of Franklin; and sons, Roderick E. (Ginger) Stamps of Hendersonville, Colonel Ronald C. (Desiree) Stamps of Owings MD, and Randall H. (Cindy) Stamps, of Hendersonville. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Beth Tidwell, Chris Tidwell, Megan (Sean) Yager, Jessica (Nick) Varnado, Thomas Stamps, Spencer Stamps, Will Stamps, Emma Stamps, and two great grandchildren, Max and Molly Yager (and another on the way), all who lovingly knew him as "Granddaddy".
Mr. Stamps was a member of the Hendersonville Church of Christ where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years and also served as an elder at the Nashville Road Church of Christ. Mr. Stamps served in Army Air Corps during WWII where he flew 24 missions and was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal. He was also the first Post Commander for the Hendersonville VFW Post 9851.
Visitation for Mr. Stamps will be at Hendersonville Funeral Home, Tuesday, November 25th, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with services on Wednesday, November 26th at 11 a.m. Active Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews, Louis and Jeff Oliver.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alive Hospice or Whispering Pines Christian Camp, Hendersonville, TN in Mr. Stamps' honor.
