Mr. Thomas Arlin "Tommy" McRae age 51, of Nashville, TN, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021.
Tommy was born in Nashville, TN, on December 7, 1969, and was the son of Arlin Lamar "Mac" McRae and Norma "Jean" Smith McRae.
He grew up in Hendersonville and graduated from Hendersonville High School. Afterwards, he attended Belmont University as a music major, before striking out on his own as a professional musician and as a member of a popular rock band in the Baltimore area.
Tommy will always be remembered as a talented and accomplished musician, songwriter and entertainer, playing multiple instruments, including guitar and keyboards. Most of all though, Tommy was an exceptionally gifted and versatile singer with a powerful tenor voice that was classic, whether he was singing rock, Americana, big band standards or leading worship music at GodWhy Church. He was part of the Nashville music scene for over 30 years, and he touched many lives through his music. In later years, he served his community by using his musical talents to raise money for charity.
With his dad, he co-owned and operated Mr. Goodroof, an award-winning roofing company in Hendersonville. Tommy was an accomplished businessman and built his company into an outstanding service-oriented company.
When Tommy walked into a room, warmth and light and excitement followed him. He was loved by all, and when you were with him, he made you feel like the most important person in the world. He was a family rock star too, a much-adored husband, and the quintessential girl dad!
He is survived by his wife, Kelly Simmons McRae, the love of his life, to whom he was married on May 28, 2017; his parents Mac and Jean McRae; two daughters, Skylar (Daniel) Palo and Chloe McRae; granddaughter, Parker Jean Palo; sister, Stephanie (Lloyd) Wilkinson; several nieces and nephews and his two dogs, Charlie LeBron and Maximus Chomps.
