Thomas "Tom" D. Cowan, 80, of Nashville, TN , passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018. Preceded in death by his parents; Fred Chalmers Cowan and Mary Eleanor Northern along with 3 brothers and 1 sister. Survived by his beloved wife, Lyndell Faye Baker Cowan, of 53 years, children; Jeffrey Cowan, Vina Alexander and her husband, Chip, and Kristie Cowan, grandchildren; Kristen Cox and her husband, Michael, Kaitlynne Alexander, Caleb Cowan and Hayley Austin, great-grandchildren; Thomas Cox and Adalynne Cox, sister, Evalyn Brown and her husband, Richard, and brother, Hugh Cowan. Tom is also survived by many extended family and friends.

Tom was born on December 2, 1937 in Nashville, TN. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Nashville Machine Company as a purchasing agent for over 20 years. Tom enjoyed watching Titans and UT football games and Atlanta Braves baseball games. He was very proud of the care he gave to his yard and loved doing yard care. Tom's favorite movies were westerns, especially John Wayne movies. He was dedicated to his church, Smiths Springs Baptist Church in Nashville, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, maintenance chairman and an usher.

Family was a priority for Tom. He enjoyed getting together with his family for holidays and family birthdays. He also enjoyed playing card games with his family, especially Solitaire and Gin Rummy. Hamburgers, steak & potatoes and French fries were some of his favorite foods, along with beverages; coffee, tea and Coke.

Tom's family described him as being quick, gentle, appreciative, and a "jack of all trades". Tom always helped people with love in his heart, had a lot of pride and integrity, and was a very caring man. Tom will be deeply missed by his family and by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life graveside service will be held for Tom at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Field of Honor, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11:00AM, officiated by Pastor Mason Davis, followed by Military Honors. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 4:00PM-8:00PM.

Please meet at graveside, in the Field of Honor on Wednesday at 10:45AM, for the graveside service.
