Col.Theodore Elvis Dorris was born in Nashville, Tn in 1929
He attended Castle Heights Military Academy, David Lipscomb
University and graduated from the University of Maryland.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 and was commissioned in 1952. He served in Korea and Viet Nam as a fighter pilot, flying more than
210 missions. In the course of his Air Force Career he flew F-84,
F-86, F-100 and F-4 aircraft. He received several awards including the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, the Defense Superior Service Medal and the Legion of Merit.
He married Dorothy Jean Dodds in 1952 who enjoyed traveling all over the world and w/ whom he had 4 children.
Ted retired with the rank of Colonel in 1982 after 32 years of service. Ted and Dotty returned to their home in Tennessee and spent their retirement in Hendersonville, TN. Dotty passed away in 1996. Ted married Elizabeth Young in 1999.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Elvis Theodore (Big Ted) Dorris and Melba Lucille Davis, his brother Roy Newton Dorris, wife Dotty D. Dorris and his second wife, Elizabeth Young.
He is survived by his children Dale (Bob) Wurster, Gregg Dorris, Scott (Rebecca) Dorris, Lindsey Dorris; step-children Glynis Mueller, Terri Dodds, Vicki Chaney, Jim Dodds; grandchildren Kevin, Kyle, Adam, Rachel, Hope, Max, Ayva, great grandson Wesley and life-long friends Bob and Joanne Hammond.
A Life Celebration Service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 5:00 PM at Hendersonville Funeral Home.
