She was an East Nashville girl. Born June 5, 1932 to the late James O. "Pappy" Reece and Jeannette "Mom" Lyon. Shirley loved everything about Nashville and her childhood including her late Brother James Reece. After graduating East High School in 1952 she met Wayne "Dutch" Holland, an Isaac Litton grad, at the tennis courts in Shelby Park. Shirley and Wayne were married in 1953 and spent their lives living on and off Air Force housing until finally landing in Hendersonville in 1968. Along the way they had four children, Jan (John) Lasater, Reece (Gary) Holland/Brumburgh, Doug (Kathy) Holland and Kenny (Tina) Holland.
Her grandchildren called her "Gracky" and she was exceptionally proud of all of them, Drew Lasater, Jay Lasater, Ashley (Sanchez) Colon, Alison (Keith) Moree, Mitch (Lindsay) Holland and Hailey (Braden) Anderson. Gracky was also blessed with four beautiful great-grandchildren, Cayson and Elliott Rose Colon, Lincoln Moree and Cole Anderson. Shirley worked several jobs but was best known as a secretary at First Baptist Hendersonville for 28 years until her retirement. She was extremely dedicated to the choir at FBC and was the unseen backbone for years. The family would like to thank her many friends and especially her dear friend, Sue Gordon, whom she and along with others took many trips after their husbands had passed to places around the world.
She was a wonderful and loving mother who was patient, kind and always did the right thing. A service to celebrate Mrs. Hollands life will be held at 11am on the morning of Monday, January 18,2021 at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville with Jeff Lake officiating. A visitation will be held from 12pm-3pm on the afternoon of Sunday, January 17,2021 at Hendersonville Funeral Home. The family would like you to know that Shirley supported the Back Pack Ministry at FBC Hendersonville and would encourage a donation if you so desire. Active pallbearers will be Braden Anderson, Sanchez Colon, Mitch Holland, Drew Lasater, Jay Lasater and Keith Moree.
