Shirlee Phene' Killough Banning passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017. Shirlee was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama to Lena Grace and Frazier Killough. She married, Richard Banning, her husband of 52 years, on May 8, 1964 in Theordore, Ala. Shirlee began her business career as assistant purchasing agent for the Alabama State Docks in Mobile. She later worked at the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce and more recently at Vol State Community College as she and Richard made several moves over Richard's career. She was a devoted wife and mother and derived her greatest joy from helping others. She was also known for her tremendous work ethic as well as for the balance provided by her passion for entertaining and the pride she took in her home. She is survived by her husband, Richard "Rick" Banning; her son, Richard (Sheila) Banning, Jr. of Gallatin; three sisters, Carolyn (Arnold) Black of Greenville, Ala., Sue (Jack) Boutwell of Alpharetta, GA, Bonnie (Rufus) Poole of Greenville, Ala., Her brother, Wayne (Ann) Killough of Greenville, Ala.; and her sisters-in-law, Gayle Killough of Greenville, Ala. and Virginia Killough of Georgiana, Ala. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lena Grace Killough; her father, Frazier Killough; and her brothers, Ronnie Killough and Kenneth Killough. Visitation will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home, Wed., Feb. 8th from 5 to 8 pm and Thursday, Feb. 9th from 10 am to noon. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, Feb. 9th at 12 noon with Pastor David Mitchell of Strong Tower Baptist Church officiating followed by interment at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
