Ruth Marshall Bumgardner
On April 9, 2016, Ruth Marshall Bumgardner went to join the Lord and her beloved "Bummy".
She was born on May 21st 1921, the youngest daughter of Joseph Henry Marshall and Lucinda Francis Boynton Marshall.
In 1938 she graduated from Presque Isle High School, in Presque Isle Maine and then received her degree in business from Maine School of Commerce/Husson University Bangor, Maine.
In 1942 Ruth enlisted in the United States Navy. She received her training at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and later stationed at Seattle Naval Hospital, in Seattle, Washington, where she was a Pharmacist's Mate 1st Class. While in Seattle, Ruth met the love of her life, Lt. William Allen Bumgardner. After the war they were married and returned to Wheeling, West Virginia, where they raised their three daughters. While living in Wheeling, Ruth was a member of Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Kings Daughters and the Twig. She enjoyed helping others and did volunteer work at Ohio Valley General Hospital, Peterson Palace, The Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and The Girl Scouts.
Ruth enjoyed playing games of all kinds. She liked to read and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and handcrafts. She also enjoyed bowling. Her family will always remember her delicious apple pies for which she followed no recipe. In 1978 the Bumgardners retired to Stuart Florida where Ruth enjoyed golfing and boating with her husband. In 1990 the Bumgardners' moved to Highlands North Carolina where they were members of The First Presbyterian Church of Highlands. Ruth was a Stephen Minister and a member of the Literacy Council and Highlands Hospital Auxiliary. She did volunteer work at the Highlands Hospital and the Cosby Center.
Ruth is survived by two sisters and one brother. Mrs. Hayward Wright of Scarborough, ME, Mrs. William Tiffany of Westbrook, ME and Rev. Paul Marshall of Hope, ME; daughters, Judy Mazzeo (Rocco) of Dallas, GA, Karen Harms of Knoxville, TN and Janice Woodard (Johnny) of Gallatin, TN; grandchildren, William Ralph McMichen Hiram, GA, James Allen McMichen (Trisha), Daniel Lee Harms, II (Laura) of McDonough, GA, Ms. Meredith Lorrain Woodard.
