Ruby Davidson- age 80 passed away May 14, 2016. She was born on April 7, 1936 in Nashville, TN to the late Turner and Ann Webb Gillihan.
When remembering her, some of the first things that the family recalled was her work ethic and love and devotion for her family. She came from very poor and humble beginnings, at the age of 17 she dropped out of high school to get a job so she could help her family. She learned to sew and became a seamstress and worked at various places. She met the love of her life Norris, at a red light one day and that was the start of happily ever after.
Ruby's children remember her as being a wonderful mother in every way. It was important to her that her children were well dressed, and never wanted for anything. She worked from home so they didn't have to go to daycare and when they reached school age, she drove them and picked them up every day while still holding down a full time job. Every evening she cooked dinner for them. She had a large heart that not everyone got to see, and helped others truly because she wanted to and not for recognition.
Ruby also had an entrepreneurial spirit. She and Norris owned the local skating rink for many years and then opened the famous, Mason Jar Restaurant. She was a wonderful cook and only used fresh food to prepare meals. She was very picky about the produce and had fresh meat delivered daily. She thought the food should taste like what she cooked for her own family. She could cook anything but never followed a recipe.
She impacted many lives over the years and will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed.
She is also preceded in death by her sister, Robin Brown.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Norris Davidson; Children, Debbie Wood (Robert Coleman) and Turner Davidson (Corinne); grandchildren, Carter, Spencer, and Olivia Davidson; sisters, Ruth Colbert, Eudell Bennett, Ann Dabbs, and Penny Redding.
