BASKETTE, Roger Du Val – Native Nashville attorney, Roger Du Val Baskette, Sr. was born on December 12, 1924 and passed away February 25, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Lee Baskette, Sr.; mother, Sara Norman; sisters, Elizabeth Baskette, Sara Gayle Baskette McCord and brother Robert Norman Baskette. He is survived by his wife, Thetis Peacock Baskette; son, Roger D. Baskette, Jr.; daughters, Pam Baskette Caples Greg, Rene Baskette Batson Garry, Marsha Baskette Dunn Steve and grandchildren, Hunter Batson, Chad Batson, Brandon Caples, Tyler Caples, Chase Caples, Shelby Dunn and Jesse Dunn. He was descended from some of the earliest settlers of America, including the first Secretary of the colony of Virginia, William Claiborne, who arrived in Jamestown in October 1621 and Daniel Du Val Huegenot, who arrived in 1701 on the York River. Mr. Baskette was a veteran of the United States Army during WWII and served in battles at the Rohr River and Remagen Bridge. He served as the first Metro Councilman of the 35th District. He was a member of the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Associations and practiced law for 57 years. He was a founding member and former Deacon of Bellevue Church of Christ. He was past president of the Andrew Jackson Chapter of the SAR, member of the Huegenot Society, Magna Carta Barons, and Colonial Order of the Crown. Pall bearers, Roger Baskette, Jr., Garry Batson, Greg Caples, Steve Dunn, Lewis Moore, Jesse Moore; Honorary pall bearers, Hunter Batson, Chad Batson, Brandon Caples, Tyler Caples, Chase Caples, and Jesse Dunn. Funeral services will be held at Bellevue Church of Christ at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 with visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral. Interment will be at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
