Mrs. Roberta "Fay" Ready, age 91, longtime resident of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children in Atlanta on Monday, December 2, 2019. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 10 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1729 Stop 30 Road in Hendersonville with Father Eric officiating. Entombment will follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive visitors at the church from 10:00AM until service time at 11:00AM.
Fay was one of the founding members of Our Lady of the Lake. She worked for AT&T for almost 30 years as telephone operator. During World War II, Fay worked in a Sylvania plant soldering electronics for military aircraft. She grew up in Northern Kentucky. Her parents were sharecroppers during the Depression and she was one of their 13 children. She enjoyed playing bridge, boating with friends on Old Hickory Lake, and spending time with family. She lived in Hickory Bay Towers for over a decade before moving to Atlanta to be closer to her children. Fay will always be remembered as a kind and loving wife, mother, and friend. She was a humble person who had great empathy for other people.
Fay is preceded in death by her loving husband John W. Ready, Sr. as well as her parents Curt and Lida Humphrey Barker. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Clayton, son David Ready and his wife Rebecca Ready, and grandsons Jacob Ready and Samuel Ready. It is noteworthy that her children chose helping professions. Rebecca Clayton, RN worked with psychiatric and geriatric patients. David Ready is a Clinical Psychologist who has been helping veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for over 34 years.
