Robert "Bobby" Meeks-age 86 of Gallatin, passed away on August 5, 2016. Born September 23, 1929 in Pelham, TN, Bobby was one of seven children. He enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 21 and dedicated himself to the service of his country during the Korean War.
As a young man he enjoyed hunting, especially, coon hunting. In fact, Bobby was a competitive coon hunter who earned many trophies for his expert abilities to zero in on his target under the dark night skies. Additionally, he was an avid fisherman. Essentially, the outdoors was always a haven where he found peace and connected with his Creator.
Above all, Bobby was man of faith who built a strong relationship with the Lord Jesus. He was a member of First Baptist Church Hendersonville, where he attended weekly services with his family. A devout family man, he would do anything for his family and friends. Spending quality time with those he loved most was a top priority for Bobby. He will live on in the memories of his nieces and nephews as "the favorite uncle!" "He played cards with us and always held an active role in our water fights." His legacy as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend will endure forever in the lives of all he had an opportunity to touch.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Zora Parks Meeks, brother, Cecil Meeks; sisters, Owonna Hill, Dorothy Mayes and Eva Baker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley Meeks; daughters, Cynthia Sprouse (Lamar) of Weeki Wachee, FL., and Lisa Phillips (Gary) of Gallatin, TN; grandson, Spencer Phillips (Lindsey); great-granddaughter, Cali Phillips; sisters, Vera Rhoads of Brandon, FL and Lela Boch of Knoxville, TN.
