Dr. Robert Knox (R.K.) Galloway Jr. was born October 19, 1924. R.K. graduated from East High School in Nashville where he led the marching band as its outstanding drum major. After graduation in 1943 he served in World War II as a First Lieutenant in the Infantry of the Americal Division in Leyte Philippines and the Occupation Forces in Japan. Upon his return in 1946 he married high school sweetheart and majorette Elizabeth Anne Dunwoody. R.K. went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University in 1950 and the University of Tennessee Dental School in 1953. While practicing in Nashville R.K. served as President of the Nashville Dental Society. After moving to the farm in Gallatin, he raised Belted Galloway Cattle that are native to Scotland and became a past president of the Belted Galloway Society of North America. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville where he also served as a Sunday school teacher.
R.K. was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Anne (Lib) Galloway, his parents Dr. R.K. Galloway Sr. (Susan), and his sister Anne Carrier. He is survived by his four children: Carol Galloway Bevans (Jim), Bob Galloway (Lorie), Dennis Galloway, and Beth Galloway Warren (Stan). He leaves 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, 353 East Main Street on Friday, March 1, 5-8 pm. A graveside service follows on Saturday, March 2, at 11 am.
