Richard E. Elliott, of Hendersonville, TN died on April 5th at the age of 91. He grew up in the Inglewood community of Nashville where where he attended Dalewood Methodist Church. He went to Isaac Litton High School and graduated in 1951 as an All City basketball player. Dickie attended Tennessee Tech on a basketball scholarship and later transferred to Austin Peay where he was an all OVC player, graduating in 1955. Dick worked for the state of Tennessee until he retired.
In his younger life was known for his softball pitching and golf. In later life he exhibited his artistic talent. He was one of the best wildlife artists in the country, but he loved giving away his paintings to those who showed an interest in his work. Tennessee chose his duck stamp painting in 1979 as the winner of the first annual Waterfowl Stamp Contest.
He is preceded in death, by his parents, Hattie Mae and Ewing Elliott. He is survived by his sister Anne Williams, his brother, Jack Elliott (Verna),
Nieces, Elaine Williams, Diane Poen (Rick), Jill Joiner (Paul), nephews Steve (Cindi), Dale (Janice), and Jason Elliott (Sarah), and a multitude of great nieces and nephews.
He will be especially missed by his "Ruby's lunch bunch", his trainer, Candy Owen's and his art student, Grace Guthrie.
Services will be at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, 353 E. Main St., Hendersonville, TN 37075
on Monday, April 10th at 1:00 pm.
