Richard B. Bawcom

November 7, 1938 — December 11, 2023

Madison, TN

Richard Bawcom was born on November 7, 1938 in Shaw, Mississippi. His family moved to Humboldt, Tennessee, where he spent most of his young adult years. After serving in the Army, he went on to spend the rest of his long life in Madison, Tennessee where he died in the comfort of his home on December 11, 2023.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Richard Bawcom and Mae Jane Bawcom (nee Taylor), brothers Curtis and Ralph Bawcom, grandsons Ashton Brownlee and Christoper Brandon McCabe, and his former wife Lydia Bawcom (nee Rush). He is survived by his daughters Melody Grant (Monty) of Ocala Fl, and Belinda McCabe (Robert) of Hendersonville TN, his granddaughters Angela Greenlee (Elliot) of Portland, OR and Rachel McCabe (Austin) of Gallatin TN, and his beloved brother Thomas Bawcom of Fairview TN.

His life was long and filled with love for coffee, puzzles, coin collecting, candy and cartoons. He was a gentle, soft-spoken man; lover of dogs, hater of cheese. He was a dedicated employee of Life & Casualty/American General and Carmike Cinemas until retirement from both. He would go out of his way to help others, especially his daughter Belinda with her craft business and garden. He loved when his daughter Melody would visit from Florida and never complained about anything unless it was food related. He still didn’t know how to properly work a computer or a cell phone. He will be dearly missed by friends and family, his life leaving a profound absence for many.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date to give the family time to process the sudden loss and unforeseen events that have taken place this week.
