Rachel Mathis

Mrs. Rachel Laurel Jones Mathis, age 73, of Hendersonville, TN, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 21, 2020.

Rachel was born in Friendship, TN, on March 9, 1947, the daughter of Harold and Magnolia Jones. Rachel's passions were her family and her relationship with Jesus, both of which she nurtured at First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, TN. Rachel was a member of First Baptist for 49 years. Rachel's smile was infectious. That smile was the window to her sweet, sweet spirit and she shared it freely. Rachel enjoyed anything involving her children and three grandchildren, spending time with her Sunday School classmates, taking in a show, singing along with gospel or country music, watching God's creatures flitting or scurrying around her yard; but, above all else, she loved reading her Bible in her daily walk with Jesus.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Jones and her sister Linda Ann Jones. Rachel is survived by her husband of 53 years, Levon Mathis; two children, daughter Gina Mathis and son Jeff Mathis; three grandchildren, Alex Mathis, Claire Mathis and Grace Mathis; and her older brother Lyndell Jones.

A graveside celebration of Rachel's life will be held on Thursday, June 25, at noon, at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, 353 Johnny Cash Parkway, Hendersonville, TN.

The family welcomes donations to First Baptist Church Hendersonville in honor of Rachel J. Mathis as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers.
