Porter Lovell Whitehead, of Old Hickory, TN, passed away April 1, 2016 at 81 years of age. Mr. Whitehead is preceded in death by his parents, Porter and Ruby Whitehead; sisters, Judy Hall, Connie Murff; and wife of 26 years, Jacquelyn Whitehead.
Mr. Whitehead is survived by his wife, Betty Whitehead; daughters, Jeri-Sue (Karus) Hampton, Lisa (Jeff) Napier, Misty Boner; son, Porter Ray Whitehead; sister, Gloria Scarborough; stepson, Steve Dukic; step-daughter, Teri Martin;
grandchildren, Greg Steely, Adrienne Kane, Nicki Fitts, Brandon Brinkley, Stephanie Napier, Savannah Napier; Alex, Steven, Zack, Jake, and Jared; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Whitehead was a graduate of Dupont High School and an alumnus of Vanderbilt University. Porter, a Chief Warrant Officer Fourth Class, was a helicopter pilot in the 4/278 TH ACR of the Tennessee Army National Guard. The Cobra helicopter was his chariot. Mr. Whitehead retired from Dupont after 30 plus years of devoted service. Additionally, he was an avid Vanderbilt Football Fan and enjoyed the sport of fishing.
Visitation for Mr. Whitehead will be at Hendersonville Funeral Home, 353 E. Main Street, Hendersonville, TN, on Monday, April 4, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday, April 5, 2016, 10-12 p.m. with funeral services to follow in the chapel. Interment will take place at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
