Phyllis Ann Layne Hutchins was born October 1, 1938 in Victoria, Tennessee and raised in Chattanooga. She graduated as valedictorian from Kirkman High School in 1956 and went to work for Key James Brick company where she met her future husband Frank. They were married in October 1959 and raised both a son and daughter. They spent most of their married life in Johnson City.
Phyllis is preceded in death by parents, Ulys Layne and Treva Channell, and sister, Frances Duckett. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Frank; son and family, Mickey, Susan, and Jake Hutchins; daughter and family, Nancy, Mike, Matthew, Will, and John Batson; and her brother James and Stacy Channell and family.
Phyllis enjoyed life and was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City for many years. Her special laugh and kind heart will be remembered by everyone who knew her.
Throughout her life, she loved to travel. She also enjoyed games and puzzles. Christmas was her favorite season and she loved every minute of the shopping, wrapping, cooking, and sharing.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Hutchins, Mike Batson, Jake Hutchins, Matthew Batson, Will Batson, and John Batson.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 11am-12pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12pm with burial to follow at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
