Age 69 of Goodlettsville, TN passed away on the evening of October 20, 2015.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Althea Duncan; and nephew, Michael Cooper.
Phillip leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Sandy Duncan; devoted daughter, Charlotte (Carl) Cliche; granddaughters, Abbie and Hailey Cliche; sisters, Kathy (Steve) Carter, Betty Gordy; niece, Cheryl (Matt) Stringer; nephews, Joshua and Tyler Carter; and a host of extended family members.
Phil was a native of Queens, New York where he graduated from Brooklyn Tech High School. He served honorably in the US Army receiving numerous honors and awards including two Silver Stars, Purple Heart, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Gallantry Cross Medal with Bronze Star, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his military service he earned an accounting degree from Fresno State University. He worked for the IRS for six years prior to joining Kraft Bros., Esstman, Patton & Harrell (now Kraft CPAs) in 1978. He became a member/owner and tax partner serving thousands of clients in Nashville and throughout the country until his retirement in 2007. He was active in the Nashville community serving numerous charities, and he was a longtime member and Treasurer of the Downtown Lions Club where he received Lions Club International's highest honor, being named a Melvin Jones Fellow.
Some of Phil's favorite activities included watching horseracing and Titans football, but Predators Hockey was his greatest sports passion. He was an original season ticket holder and truly enjoyed introducing his family and friends to hockey.
The family expresses special thanks to all the loving caregivers at the VA Tennessee Valley Heathcare System and Vanderbilt, especially Dr. Alvin Powers. Thank you to the many friends and family who have visited, called, sent cards and letters during his last months.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 3rd, 11AM at Metro Baptist Church, 322 East Cedar Street, Goodlettsville, TN 37072. 615.859.1184
