Norma Jean McRae

April 9, 1940 — August 13, 2024

Norma Jean McRae, age 84, of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 13, 2024. Norma Jean was born on April 9, 1940 in Brookhaven, Mississippi to Ernest Smith and Edjanora Furlow. 

Norma dedicated her life to her family, her church, and teaching. She loved people and leading them to love Jesus. Jean graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University in 1966 and went on to teach elementary school. She was a teacher for over 30 years at Lakeside Park Elementary in Hendersonville. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Nashville, Tennessee for over 50 years. She enjoyed teaching Bible study and attending the Victory Class at church. Jean also enjoyed traveling with the “Golden Girls” and going on church retreats. 

She loved to be with her husband, and especially loved her son, Tommy. Her granddaughters and great granddaughters were the joy of her life. 

In addition to her parents, Norma is preceded in death by her sister; her two brothers; and her beloved son, Tommy McRae. 

Norma is survived by her husband of 58 years, Arlin “Mac” McRae; her daughter in law, Kelly McRae; granddaughters, Skylar Palo (Daniel) and Chloe McRae; and her great granddaughters, Parker Jean Palo and Caroline Linell Palo. She is also survived by Stephanie Wilkinson (Lloyd), Daniel Wilkinson (Jessica), Zach Wilkinson (Elizabeth), Rachel Mozingo (Nathan), Alex Wilkinson (Bethaney), Hannah Wilkinson and their children. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at Hendersonville Funeral Home (353 E. Main Street, Hendersonville, Tennessee 37075). The funeral service for Norma will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Hendersonville Funeral Home (353 E. Main Street, Hendersonville, Tennessee 37075). Burial will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens (353 E. Main Street, Hendersonville, Tennessee 37075).Pallbearers will be Daniel Palo, Tanner Carson, Daniel Wilkinson, Zach Wilkinson, Alex Wilkinson, and Nathan Mozingo.
