NANCY HAWKINS HOWE
Nancy Hawkins Howe, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Sanatoga Court in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Nancy Glynn Hawkins was born on September 17, 1932, in Shelby, NC, to Eules "Hawk" and Mable Hawkins. She was a 1950 graduate of Shelby High School. She married Bobby Howe on June 19, 1954, and they resided in Charlotte and Gastonia, NC, and Brunswick, GA, before settling and making their home in Hendersonville, TN. Nancy attended Volunteer State Community College and worked from 1976 until her retirement in 1995 in administrative, faculty, and student support in the office of the Vocational Center at Hendersonville High School. Following her husband's death in 2011, Nancy resided in Pottstown, PA.
Nancy will be forever remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, and friend whose generosity was remarkable. Her fierce love of her family was unwavering, and her dedication to her many friends was extraordinary. Nancy's social relationships were her life. She developed many wonderful friendships and deep ties with colleagues and students in the vocational wing at Hendersonville High in a job she dearly loved. Even more important were the steadfast, lifelong bonds she developed with others as a faithful member of Hendersonville First United Methodist Church and the Companions Sunday school class. Many family and personal friendships spanned 5 decades. Her generous service-particularly her delicious cooking-for the Sunshine Committee of the Companions was a blessing to both her and those the committee served. Further, she enjoyed nothing more than showering those dear to her with thoughtful gifts.
Nancy took great joy in eating out, attending dinner parties, shopping, and talking on the telephone with friends. She also loved watching Duke basketball with her staunch Blue Devil-supporting husband.
The family is eternally grateful to Nancy's dear friends, brothers, sister, and sisters-in-law who were so thoughtful, caring, helpful, and concerned as she suffered memory impairment and cognitive decline during the last decade of her life. The outpouring of support for Nancy at the time of her husband's death was invaluable. The family also extends gratitude to the staff at Sanatoga Court for the care Nancy received during the past 5 years.
Nancy is survived by her daughters Carla (David) Godfrey and Arden (Ron) Moore; brothers Robert "Keith" (Freida) Hawkins and Jerry (Reba) Hawkins; sister Mary Norman; sister-in-law Patricia (William) Roberts; and grandchildren Collin and Glynna Godfrey and Abigail and Cameron Moore. She was preceded in death by her devoted, beloved husband of 56 years, Bob.
The children and grandchildren of Nancy and Bob will be forever thankful for and inspired by the example they set as parents and grandparents in a loving marriage and Christian home.
Interment will be in the Hendersonville Memory Gardens Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. A celebration of Nancy's life and memorial service is planned for late spring.
