Maurice was born in Rock Island TN, during the depression years, but his family later moved to Nashville when he was just a child, eventually settling down in East Nashville. Maurice was a graduate of East High, class of 1954, and went to the University of Tennessee, where he ran track, and was a member of the 1956 SEC Champion Cross Country team, which allowed his name to be etched on the UT Wall of Fame. He married the love of his life, Suella Hammond, from Wytheville VA, and they had five boys, Cary (Sherree), Mark , Chris, Robert (Judy), and Alan. He had seven Grandchildren, and two great-Grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces from both sides of the family. Maurice and his immediate family resided in Hendersonville TN for the last 50 years. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, TN, where he was a well-respected Deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 35 years. His life loves were his GOD, his family, his church, his friends, and the University of Tennessee Volunteers (a true VFL). Mathew 25:21 verse starts with this, which is fitting for the life that Maurice led "His master replied, Well done, good and faithful servant!"
