Mary Sudekum

SUDEKUM, Mary Ann, age 86 of Hendersonville, passed on March 23, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.

She is survived by her brother, Clement E. Greek, III (Buddy) and four children, Billy (Carol), Bobby (Stephanie), Beth Hickey (Ed), and Becky Hammond (Sheldon). She leaves a legacy of fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann was born on January 29, 1929 in Whites Creek, TN to Clement Erb Greek, II, and Kathryn Elizabeth Greek. She attended Litton High School where she was a cheerleader. While there, she met her future husband, Bill Sudekum, and after waiting for his return from serving in the Navy for two years in the Pacific, they were married. After their marriage, they attended Tennessee Tech University where she studied music.

After graduation and throughout her life, she worked as a band and choral teacher at many schools in Davidson and Sumner Counties. She was an accomplished pianist and organist for both the Methodist Church and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hendersonville. Mary Ann and Bill were faithfully committed to each other for 62 years when Bill passed away in 2009. Mary Ann has been an example of courage and strength through her battles with breast and uterine cancer. She never complained about her illness and could always put a smile on your face with all of her great stories. She exemplifies what it means to be a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Her service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28th at Hendersonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 27th and 10-11 on Saturday, March 28th at the same location.
