Age 79 of Hendersonville, TN was relieved of her earthly sufferings and went to be with the Lord on the evening of October 7, 2015.
Marilyn was a fantastic wife and mother who showed her steadfast love at every moment despite any hardship. She relished every opportunity she had to spend time in the company of her family. Her grandchildren knew her as "grandmama" and her great-grandchildren knew her as "mamaw." Regardless of her title, she was in love with her grandchildren and spoiled them as best she could. When recalling her legacy, the family remembers her as "the rock" of the family. Counsel could always be sought from her no matter the situation.
Marilyn enjoyed canning, baking, and cooking big meals for her family to gather around during the holidays. Among all the holidays, Christmas was her favorite. In fact, she would begin her Christmas preparation in the month of October. Her home would be beautifully adorned with all of the many decorations she collected over the years. She also enjoyed making regular trips with her family to Panama City, FL where she especially enjoyed putting her feet in the sand and stopping at Pineapple Willy's.
Above all, she was a woman of faith and that faith resonated in her daily life. She spent several years as an aid on a school bus for special needs children who she loved dearly. Children of all ages and backgrounds brought her great joy. She and her husband were members of Central Baptist Church for 8 years, and more recently, members of Holiday Heights Baptist Church, although she was too ill to attend services there.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and her brother.
Marilyn leaves behind her loving husband of 56 years, Joe Butts; daughter, Cathey (Rick) Rogers; son, Duane (Kathy) Butts; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four sisters.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors today from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. and tomorrow from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. All services will be conducted at the funeral home. HENDERSONVILLE FUNERAL HOME 353 E.
