Age 55 of Hendersonville, TN passed away on the evening of October 22, 2015 after her long, courageous battle with cancer.
Lucy leaves behind a tremendous legacy, and several words come to mind to describe that legacy; loving, courageous, funny, strong, loyal, honest, and authentic. Her authenticity was tangible to those who knew her best because they experienced the way she presented herself in private and in public; regardless of the situation, the same Lucy was present to all. It could even be said that she never met a stranger. Those who had the greatest influence on Lucy were her family (after all she was number eight of thirteen children, and yes, they were all from the same two parents) and her friends.
She was an avid golfer and a member of Foxland Harbor Golf and Country Club. During the course of her years as a golfer, she played in several leagues. Fortunately, Lucy accomplished what most golfers hope to in a lifetime; she actually shot a hole-in-one!
Aside from her love of golf and being out on any course, Lucy enjoyed traveling with Ann, her spouse, all over the United States including Hawaii, New York City, Las Vegas; and her hometown of Chicago. Her roots to Chicago ran deep, and both she and Ann were sports fanatics who cheered for the Cubs and the Blackhawks. However, when it came to the NFL, Lucy was an Indianapolis Colts fan.
Lucy's presence made others feel good and her career choices had a similar effect. In fact, she was superintendent for a homebuilder in the Chicago area and built hundreds of homes for families. More recently, she was a fantastic massage therapist who even shared her gifts with others suffering from cancer. She had a calming and gentle soul which touched the lives of many and she gave so much of herself to others.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Elizabeth; brother, Joseph; and sister, Kim. She is survived by her spouse of 20 years, Ann Hoggatt; six brothers; four sisters; several nieces and nephews; and many treasured family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Lucy to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org/donate, the ALS Association at alsa.org/donate, or Alive Hospice Nashville at alivehospice.org/support-us/donate-now.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27 at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A life celebration will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12 p.m. A memorial service is pending at a later date in Chicago, IL. HENDERSONVILLE FUNERAL HOME 353 E.
