Lt. James "Jim" Robert Lawson Jr. (Ret.), of Castalian Springs, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020, at the age of 61. Preceded in death by his parents, Jim Sr. and Tess Lawson. Survived by his wife of 36 years, Theresa, mother-in-law, Delores Dockum, children: Amanda Hogan (Michael), Megan Lawson, Joseph Lawson, sisters: Joyce Gentry, Carol Gregory (Mike), Deby Lawson, cherished "PawPaw" to MJ and Madalynn Hogan. Jim is also survived by his dog, "Duke", along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Jim was born on January 28, 1959 in Madison, Tennessee. He retired from the Hendersonville Police Department after 32 years of service. Jim was the Commander of the Negotiations Team. He attended the FBI National Academy in 1997 and served as a State Officer for the Tennessee Chapter of the FBI National Academy. He also was a member of the Tennessee State Guard. Jim was a longtime member of Hendersonville Church of Christ where he was the head of security and camp superintendent at Whispering Pines Christian Camp.
Jim loved to travel, especially Carnival Cruises to any and all destinations. His passion was serving his church and community. He enjoyed SEC football, especially Vanderbilt. He adored his grandchildren and his family calls him their Hero. He was a servant, and a man full of courage, compassion and love. Jim will be dearly missed by not only his family and friends, but also by the community he served.
Memorial contributions in Jim's honor can be made to Hendersonville Church of Christ on behalf of Whispering Pines Christian Camp.
