Loren Edwin Andrews, age 90 of Gallatin, TN passed from this earthly life on January 5, 2017. He was born on March 19, 1926, in Canton Ohio to the late Carl Willis Andrews and Grace Loughman Andrews. His young growing years were spent in Canton, Ohio until his junior year in High School when his father took a job in New York City. The family lived in New York for a short period and Loren had his first job as a "soda jerk." The family returned to Canton where Loren graduated from Mckinley High School.

The summer after graduation he met the love of his life, Irene McGuire. Loren joined the U.S. Navy in the fall and served in Guam during the World War ll. After his service in the Navy, Loren and Irene married on August 27, 1948 at the United Brethren Church in Canton, Ohio.

In 1952 Loren earned a degree from Akron University, in Akron, Ohio, in electrical engineering leading to a 34 year career with General Electric Company. He worked in the small motor design division in Fort Wayne, IN and then in Hendersonville, TN.

Loren and Irene raised 5 children in Fort Wayne for 18 years before moving to Tennessee. Loren is survived by his wife, Irene of 68.5 years and by 5 children; Bruce(Leslie) Andrews of Kimmell, IN, Keith(Judy) Andrews of Cincinnati, Ohio, Joyce(David) Adams of Shelbyville, TN, Brent(Sheila) Andrews of Milton, W. Va., and Gayle(Steve) Sullivan of Springfield, TN. He is also survived by two sisters: Hazel Miller and Carol Griffin of Canton, Ohio. He was proud of his 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was always known as a dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was very supportive of family activities and was a life-long boy scout. He earned almost every badge as a Boy Scout and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. As Scout Masterof troops in Indiana and then in Tennessee he led two sons to the honor of Eagle Scout. He began his leadership years Scouting in TN in the early 1970's with Troop 75 and experienced that troop's first Eagle Scout and also led the young men in many new experiences in scouting. He received many awards for his leadership in scouting, including the Long Rifle and the highest local honor of Silver Beaver.

Loren was always thinking of others and valued community service. He loved God, his country and his Church, Hendersonville United Methodist. He served the church actively through committees, the Companions Sunday School Class, United Methodist Men, and volunteered whenever he could. He served the Good Samaritan Center, stocking food, and volunteered with Hendersonville Home Bound meals for 20 years.

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease about 5 years ago, and subsequently he had to discontinue his service work. Even through this horrible disease, he seemed to keep a positive attitude. After admission to a care facility over a year ago, he helped "maintain" equipment that was stored outside his room, always trying to help!

He has touched countless lives and leaves a legacy of love and commitment.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11, from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home, and Thursday 1-2 at Church with service to follow at Hendersonville First United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hendersonville First United Methodist Church, homebound meals, or Avalon Hospice of Hendersonville, TN.
