Lawrence Alston Longhurst, Jr., age 85 of Hendersonville, passed away Monday, January 25, 2010. Mr. Longhurst was a graduate of Auburn University. He served as a deacon at the Hendersonville Church of Christ and traveled extensively with We Care. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Alston, Sr. and Margaret King Longhurst; wife, Annabel Longhurst; son, Gary Longhurst and brother, Robert Longhurst. He is survived by his wife, Dale Soyars Longhurst; daughters, Ann Buddy Williams and Deborah Steve McClure; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM, Wednesday, January 27, in the Chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home with Bill Ruhl, Joe Bogel, Rodney Cloud and Paul Dorris officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 PM on Tuesday, January 26 at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Steven, Blake and Brent McClure, Michael Kelly, Neil Taylor, John Hendley, Mitchell Farris and Bill Longhurst will serve as pallbearers. The Elders, Deacons and Senior Moment Group of Hendersonville Church of Christ and the Rookie Rook Club will act as honorary pallbearers.
