SMITH, L. Maxwell, in his 89th year, passed away March 30, 2012. Survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Vogliazzo Smith. Preceded in death by son , Steven Maxwell Smith and parents, Mary Watkins Smith and Lovell Nathan Smith. Loving family includes, daughter Sandy Smith Scruggs Randy, sons, Taylor Rhodes Stacey and Scott Smith Jane, and grandchildren Whitney Taylor Rhodes, Lindsey Scruggs, Calvin Smith and Jillian Smith. Mr. Smith attended Vanderbilt University. He won many body building competitions while in the Navy. After his service in the Navy he bought a chain of dairy dips. His experience from his father's carpet and design business led Maxwell into becoming one of the first interior designers in Nashville and in the late 1950's opened his well known interior design firm, "L. Maxwell Smith Interiors" on West End Avenue current location of BrickTops and later with Brownledge Galleries on Crestmoor Avenue in Green Hills for over 30 years. Music was always an important part of his life. Maxwell played violin and piano. He composed and scored many original pieces on sheet music and had four children and their spouses successful in music from classical to pop, rock and bluegrass. He attended West End Church of Christ and later Belmont Church in Nashville. A life celebration service will be at 1pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
