Kurby Owens

Kurby Edwin Owens, age 79 of Hendersonville, TN passed away on Friday January 6, 2023 in Murfreesboro, TN. Kurby was born in Akin, IL and was the son of the late Leamon Samford and Marlyn June Sniderwin Owens.

Kurby is survived by his wife of 58 years Karen Miriani Owens, daughter Karla Marenka of Hendersonville, sister Glenda Martin of Port St. John, FL, brother Leamon Owens of San Diego, CA; daughter-in-law Sondra Sharpe; grandchildren John Banister, Jr.,Kayleigh Mack, Miranda (Cody Wix), Carson Marenka, Dani Owens, and Delaney (Nick Reeves); great-grandchildren Ryatt Mack, Violet Mack, Delilah Mack, Lennox Wix, Harlow Wix, and Kurt Terry. Kurby was preceded in death by son William Kurby Owens, parents Leamon Samford “Sam” Owens and Marlyn June Sniderwin Owens.

A Celebration of life for Kurby will be held at 6pm on the evening of Friday, January 13, 2023 at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4pm-6pm on the afternoon Friday, January 13, 2023 at Hendersonville Funeral Home.

Kurby spent three years in the United States Army proudly serving his country. He was also a player and coach of a Senior softball team for over twenty years. His teams won several city championships. He loved his team and made many lasting friendships. Kurby saved the life of one of our neighbors when we lived in Owensboro, KY, and for that he was awarded the rank of Kentucky Colonel. He was also a Tennessee Squire. Kurby loved, and I mean he bled blue for the Kentucky Wildcats and he let every sports conversation know that. He also loved the Tennessee Titans and St. Louis cardinals. Kurby also liked loud socks! He would pull his pants leg up so everyone could see them. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and they adored him. He also loved our two pugs, Lily and Lucy. He was a wonderful and funny man, always sharing a joke and will be sorely missed by all those who loved him.
