Kenneth (Kenny) William Hypes Born to Brown Ribble Kent Hypes and Raymond Luther Hypes on June 30, 1926 in Blacksburg, VA. Left this world for a better one on October 22, 2016. Kenny was a resident of Hendersonville, TN. Preceded in death by his brothers, Roscoe Hypes, Irving Hypes and Paul Hypes. He left behind a loving son William Edward Hypes and Daughter-In-Law Angela Pearson Hypes and a loving daughter Tammy Gale Hypes Kirby, as well as two beautiful sweet Grandchildren-Annabelle Katherine Hypes and Silas Matthew Hypes. He also left behind a brother Earl Leroy Hypes of Pembroke, VA (Formerly of Blacksburg, Va) and Sister-In-Law Wanda Hypes of Pembroke. He also left a sister behind Martha Raye Hypes Bolt residing in Scottsdale, AZ. During Kenny's long life of over 90 years, he was a Musician/Singer/Taxi Driver/Auto Parts Salesman/Car Salesman/Fisherman/Watch Collector, etc. He also Hung out and answered phones, etc. at Aaa Discount Transmission Center in Hendersonville, TN. That was his Home Away From Home. He loved it there! He resided in Christian Manor Apartments up until a couple of months ago when he moved in with his son Will and Daughter-In-Law Angie where they took very good care of him. He started falling quite a bit and had to go to Hendersonville Hospital and there improved enough to go to NHC of Hendersonville where they took very good care of him until a sudden turn for the worse on Saturday October 22nd where he passed on to be with The Good Lord!
Kenny started at a young age playing music and traveling. He used to have a trained horse name Sonny Boy that traveled with him to do shows. Kenny played quite a few years in the Cambridge and Salisbury Maryland area. He played behind such greats as Wanda Jackson and Hank Thompson! Kenny worked in a Jewelry Store with a Jewish Gentlemen whom he referred to as Uncle Phillip and learned all the ropes about watches and jewelry. Kenny could play any instrument he picked up and continued to do that up until a few years ago. Kenny met Linda Gale Oliver in 1965 and became her Lead Guitar Player. Within a couple of years he married her and had two beautiful children. William Edward and Tammy Gale. Even though Kenny and Linda divorced after about 10 years of marriage, they continued to stay good friends/family and Kenny played in Linda Gale's band for many, many years. Linda Gale continues to be his friend/family to this day.
Kenny has played music with many, many good musicians but his biggest influence in music was the Late, Great Ernest Tubb. Kenny used to sing and play his songs. He also loved all of the Texas Troubadours. He loved Leon Rhodes, Buddy Charleton, Jack Greene, etc. He also has played with the Great Lynn Owsley from the Texas Troubadours as well as Mike Sweeney and Buford Gentry who played for Hank Snow.
Kenny loved to Fish and did quite a bit of that over the years. He and his buddy Ken Phipps from Blacksburg, VA went many years together in Virginia. After moving to Tennessee, he loved fishing in Old Hickory Lake around the Dam.
We are celebrating his life on Thursday, November 3rd 2016 at Hendersonville Funeral Home, with visitation from 1-4 and Service at 4:00 pm. Please come and join us and be a part of his Celebration of Life!
