Joseph P. Maye Sr, family man and golf enthusiast, passed away on August 28, 2022 surrounded by family members. Joseph (Joe) was born February 1, 1932 in Abington, PA and moved throughout the East Coast before settling in Hendersonville, TN in 1972.
Joe was a USAF Korean War Veteran. He was a controller with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in several control towers in NE and at FAA Washington HQ before being named Chief of FAA Control Tower at Nashville Airport (BNA) in 1972. Joe served as Chief in Nashville until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed building a few homes with his sons and was passionate about his volunteer service for the community. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church since 1972.
Joe was also an avid golfer. He was the co-founder of the Tennessee Traveling Senior Golf Association (TTSGA) where he served as the organization’s first president.
Proceeded in death by parents, Martin and Margaret (Healy) Maye, wife of 44 years Lois Ann, daughter Shelia Hauser, and five brothers. Survived by sons Joseph Jr. (Kay) and Stephen (Debbie), daughters Suzanne Maye (John Kline) and Diane Whitaker (Curt), over 20 grandchildren/great grandchildren, sisters Mary T. Lincoln (Robert) and Nancy Morrissey (Joseph).
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 10 a.m. for immediate family members at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
