Joseph Edward "Eddie" Hunley, Jr. passed onto his heavenly reward on the afternoon of October 19, 2016 with family at his side. He courageously fought cancer during his last year, exemplifying faith, fortitude, and optimism. Eddie is an example for us all.

Eddie will be remembered for his happy, upbeat spirit, enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and his constant love and affection. He was a great supporter of his family and friends who, despite the circumstances, would encourage them during trials. Quick with a hug and never missing an opportunity to say "I love you," he always made sure you knew how much you meant to him. The ever-present smile on his face is etched on our hearts forever. Always striving to make others smile, Eddie employed his unique sense of humor. Gifted with the ability to gain friends easily, he was truly a kind-hearted man.

Though he held several different positions over the years, he put his commercial driver license to good use. For the past five years he safely transported hazardous materials for Clean Harbors Environmental and was well-liked and respected by his supervisors, co-workers, and clients. He was a dependable, hard-worker who gave every task his best effort regardless of how he may have been feeling. In fact, "he never complained about anything" recalls his supervisor, Patrick Storey. Patrick also recalls, "Eddie helped anyone in need and he took the initiative to correct wrongs as they confronted him."

In his spare time, Eddie collected CDs from various genres, but he particularly liked rock ‘n roll. Though he kept a meticulous music collection in alphabetical order, he was an avid concert-goer. Eddie attended hundreds of concerts in his lifetime performed by a vast array of artists from AC/DC to Barry Manilow. Rock ‘n roll held pride of place among musical genres with AC/DC, Kiss, and Metallica being a few of his favorites. He also enjoyed the Outlaw country music sounds of Billy Joe Shaver and Johnny Cash.

Eddie enjoyed Thanksgiving and would usually smoke or fry a turkey for his family to feast on. Part of his annual celebration of Thanksgiving included watching "Planes, Trains, & Automobiles" and listening to the lengthy Arlo Guthrie hit "Alice's Restaurant." He routinely released balloons in memory of his son Connor on Halloween and missed him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Hunley, Sr. and his son, Connor Jordan Hunley. Eddie leaves behind those he loved most in this world; his mother, Beverly (Garvin) Hunley Claiborne; sister, Tammy (Shelton) Wasilewsky; stepsisters, Layna Rowlett, Connie (Eric) Dixon; nieces, Victoria Wasilewsky, Elyssa Dixon; nephews, Ragan Wasilewsky, Garrett Rowlett, Colby Rowlett, Andrew Dixon; several other extended family members; and countless treasured friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Eddie Hunley to the Freed-Hardeman University's Pete Parker Scholarship Fund care of Hendersonville Church of Christ, 107 Rockland Road, Hendersonville, TN 37075. Please be sure to indicate your gift in Eddie's memory.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. A Celebration of Eddie's Life will follow visitation on Monday at noon. All will be held at the Hendersonville Funeral Home. Entombment will follow the service in the Hendersonville Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Those serving as active pallbearers are Scott King, Mark Moulder, Darrin Hickman, Eric Dixon, Ken Glaus, Shelton Wasilewsky, Mark Savage, Keith O'Neal, and Patrick Storey.
