Stratton, John Robert - Age 77 of Hendersonville, TN went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2016. John was born in Russellville, KY to the late Zeddie and Floy Stratton. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, where he was a faithful member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class. After marrying his high school sweetheart and graduating from Bowling Green College of Commerce, John and Linda moved to Nashville. John worked as an accountant for Genesco for over 40 years until his retirement in 2002. To his family he was a loving husband and father and a good provider. He enjoyed working in the yard, listening to music, traveling, spending time with his children and grandchildren, watching his favorite Kentucky Wildcats, NY Yankees and TN Titans. John enjoyed serving his church and community in various ways over his lifetime. He supported the Hendersonville High School Band of Gold, serving in the Booster Club and helping organize the first Hendersonville Golden Invitational. In his later years, he served in the Genesco Retiree Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Linda Tyree Stratton. He is survived by his loving children, John Stephen Stratton (Lisa) of Frankfort, KY, Lesley Stark (Mike) of Gallatin, Laura Sprouse (Scott) of Hendersonville and Rebecca Hanly (J.P.) of Ocean, NJ, and grandchildren, Roger, John Michael and Jared Stark, Carter and Henry Sprouse, Sheldon and Cliff Hanly, and Kelli Stark Cranford. A special thanks to Claudia Seybert who brought John much happiness.
A Life Celebration Service will be held on Thursday 11am with Dr. Bruce Chesser officiating at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mike Stark, Scott Sprouse, J.P. Hanly, Bill Coles, Ron Coles and Alex Bell. Honorary pallbearers are James Ramsey and Ernie Bates. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 and on Thursday from 10-11am at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Hendersonville First Baptist Church SOS Backpack Ministry.
