Age 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2016. He was born in Karma, Oklahoma to the late Bonnie Samuel and Tisha Dellinger. He was also preceded in death by his faithful and loving wife of sixty-one years, Irene Dellinger.
He is survived by son, John and Mary Dellinger; daughter, Bonnie and Terry Mink; granddaughters, Melissa and Chris Gardner, and Michelle Mink; grandson, Michael and Janet DeBoard; Aunt Cora Maltby; and numerous other aunts and uncles. He cherished his special friends who became family: David, Pamela, Whitney, and Nicholas. John also loved his grand-pets: Lizzie, Mickey, Porter, and Zeppelin.
John always put the Lord first in his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. He was blessed to spend sixty-one years with his sweetheart, and together they traveled the world. He was a devoted family man and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with those he loved. John was also dedicated to his country, serving in the U. S. Army. He was a diehard Oklahoma Sooners fan and loved cheering on his team.
After a successful career of thirty-two years of dedicated service, he retired from his work with the Space Program. During his years with NASA, he was privileged to work on such projects as the Gemini, Apollos, all of the Space Shuttles, and the Space Station. Over the course of his career, he met seven U.S. Presidents and received numerous awards from them. His accomplishments with being a part of the history of our nation's role in space travel always made him proud.
A Celebration of John's Life will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Gaia officiating. Burial will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and on, December 19 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Hendersonville's Backpack Ministry. Please be sure to note your donation in John's memory.
