Obituary for John Lewis Crandall
John Lewis Crandall, 68, of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away March 9, 2015. John was born February 12, 1947 in St. Louis, MO and moved to Las Vegas, NV when he was 13. He attended Las Vegas H.S. and Bishop Gorman H.S. He served in the National Guard. He enjoyed his younger years as a cowboy in the Las Vegas Valley, where he rode his horse, Copper, in The Valley desert. He was well known as a champion chili cook, winning the prestigious and fiercely competitive Nevada State Chili Cook-Off in 1980, as well as two Lower Colorado Regional Championships in Lake Havasu, Arizona. From 1985-1991, John lived in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area, where he was a sales manager for Crystal Water. He proudly served as a volunteer firefighter for the Ely, NV Fire Department and also served for many years as a corrections officer for the states of Nevada and Wyoming. John loved and cared for his faithful dog of 18 years, Champ. In his latter years, John enjoyed fishing with his daughter and grandsons at Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson, Justin, play football at Pope John Paul II H.S. and was very proud of his oldest grandson, Cody, for joining the Navy. Mr. Crandall is survived by his daughter; Lisa Crandall Humphries, his son; Curtis Lee Crandall, his three grandsons; Cody, Justin, and Joshua, and his son-in-law; Randy Humphries. Those whom John loved, he loved much. May we all love much, rather than not enough. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary at www.ofsds.org with the notes section indicating "In Memory of John Lewis Crandall".
