COLLIER, JOHN DAVID Age 93 of the Liberty Community passed away January 17, 2013 in Gallatin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lou Renfro Collier, whom he married on February 6, 1944. He was the son of the late Thomas Vines and Nellie Robertson Collier of the Liberty Community. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Graham Collier, Ira Thomas Collier & James Collier; sister, Nellie Mai Strother. Survived by his children, David L. Linda Collier of Lebanon, Steven T. Kathleen Collier of Gallatin, Nellanne Eddie Brindley of Mt. Juliet & Nancy L. Mark Clark of Westmoreland. He was "Pa" to six grandchildren, Brian Jennifer Collier, Stevie Collier, Lisa Rick Stebbins, Ron Thompson, Lee Clark & Andrew Collier: twelve great-grandchildren.
He was born April 26, 1919 and lived most of his life in the Liberty Community in Sumner County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and worked at the Oak Ridge Laboratory building the atom bomb material. A life long farmer, he worked as a body mechanic, as well as, a taxidermist in his later life. He was a third generation member of Liberty United Methodist Church.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Liberty United Methodist Church. The church is located on 1130 Liberty Lane off Highway 25W Red River Road. The family will receive visitors Friday, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the church and two hours before the service on Saturday.
