Jimmy Smart-age 85 passed away February 5, 2017. As a young man he served our country as a Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Delta after 26 years of service. He went on to spend his life fostering his love of singing and songwriting in Music City. He and his wife helped many aspiring musicians achieve success on their television shows, Nashville Video Showcase and Smart Country. One of his most cherished memories was his appearance on the Grand Ole Opry.
Jimmy's favorite pastime was pursuing yard sales around Hendersonville. You could always find Jimmy at home enjoying his family, Snickers candy bars, and cheese curls. Jimmy also devoted his time once a week taping for the city of Hendersonville. To add to his passion of music, Jimmy joined forces with Mark Cheney and Rick Straight as the "Poison Oaks", who performed at various venues around Nashville. Jimmy and wife, Lorraine wrote many songs with Hank Sasaki. Those who knew Jimmy, knew his passion of music, family, friends, and fun. He was a husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Carrie Smart; brother, Henry Smart; son, Scott Spencer, and son-in-law, Marc Cormier. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lorraine Smart; daughters, Lisa Cormier and Lori Harrell (Sam); sons, Michael Smart (Shelia), Anthony Smart and Terry Smart; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday Feb. 8, 2017 at 11am at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday Feb. 7, 2017 from 4pm-8pm and on Wed. from 10-11am at Hendersonville Funeral Home.
