Jean Talbot, age 85 of Hendersonville, TN, was received into the merciful arms of the Lord on the morning of August 26, 2016.

Born in Hickman, TN on December 13, 1930, Jean was one of four children. Having grown up on a dairy farm during the Great Depression, Jean's daily routine consisted of milking the cows before going off to her studies at school. In her experience of this tumultuous and uncertain time in history, she only knew of the Depression from what was heard over the airwaves while gathering with her family around the radio. As the years passed from adolescence to adulthood, she blossomed into a beautiful woman. Having many wonderful attributes, she will be remembered most as elegant, graceful, dignified, independent, stylish, loving, and faithful.

Her life in Christ manifested itself brilliantly in all of her undertakings. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God of Prophecy and a member for several decades of the Gallatin Church of God of Prophecy. Her children recount, "each and every day she'd pray for all of her family and friends by name." Her faith was, without question, an inspiration to us all. Whenever anyone would visit Jean's home they'd surely find evidence of her constancy; in fact, her well-worn bible was always open. Her love of and thirst for the Truth was a thirst for Jesus himself. Truth itself is not simply an abstract something, but rather a somebody, and that somebody is Jesus Christ.

Jean was an avid reader with an unquenchable appetite for knowledge. Religion, history, politics, and Israel were among her favorite genres. Naturally, being so well read, she maintained strong opinions when it came to politics, her faith, and current events. However, Jean had the ability to discuss most any issue with courtesy and grace. This was one of many ways in which she was multitalented.

In fact, during her twenty-five year tenure with General Electric she was named the first female supervisor. Although she worked for G.E. for a quarter of a century, her passion was employing her skills as a professional seamstress. Jean tailored custom dresses, suits, window treatments, blankets, and many other items from her own home. Her services benefitted many in and around the Hendersonville area. Several notable names from the country music community also commissioned her to augment their wardrobes and dress their homes. She also made countless pieces for her friends and family. Traditionally, Jean would outfit the nursery whenever a new baby was scheduled to arrive into the family. These and other treasured pieces will remain as cherished heirlooms. Jean will also be remembered for her abilities in the kitchen. Despite the years passing by and the family growing as large as it did, Jean managed to remember every individual's favorite dish. She would prepare that dish for holiday gatherings and birthday dinners.

After a large family feast was served, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would spend a couple of hours washing dishes. Meanwhile, Jean would take the opportunity to clean out her refrigerator and gather up the necessary plastic containers to ensure that even a spoonful of someone's favorite dish made it home with its rightful owner. Her love and care will be deeply missed but it will live on in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, H.M. and Beulah Cowan. Jean lost her first husband of eleven years, Glenn Blackburn; and then her second husband of ten years, John C. Talbot. Jean leaves behind her daughter, Amy Jean (Ted Bock) Dorris; sons, Andy Glenn (Sherry) Talbot, John Marvin Talbot; twelve grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Weakley, Joyce Cowan; Carol Dupre; brother, Marvin Ray (Linda) Cowan; several nieces and nephews; and a host of treasured friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 29 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, August 30 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. A Celebration of Jean's Life will follow visitation on Tuesday at noon.
