Jayme Smith (née Johnson) died in her loving home in Hendersonville, Tennessee on September 2, 2015 at the age of 57.
Jayme is survived by her husband, Peter K. Smith, M.D of Hendersonville.; son, Austin G. Smith of Charleston, S.C.; mother Marcia R Johnson Dantzler, sisters, Charlene J and Gary Scott, Jan J and Joe Markiewicz, Mary Lynne J and John Loftus, Sharon Dantzler and Tom Gillette, Ira D and Bruce Mueller and brother J. W. and Kathi Dantzler and brother in law Mark and Anita Smith, sister in law Kate and Jim Cardin along with multiple nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father James G. Johnson, M.D. of Orangeburg, S.C. and her sister Karen J Williams of Orangeburg, S.C. and stepfather J. W. Dantzler, DVM.
Jayme graduated MUSC with BSN, Masters Degree in Public Health from ETSU. She began her career in Birmingham, Alabama where she married Peter Smith, a medical school student in 1985. . Jayme and Peter welcomed their son, Austin, into their home in Johnson City, Tennessee in 1988. Her husband and son remember her as a gentle, patient and supportive mother and wife who encouraged them in the pursuit of their goals.
Jayme was accomplished at painting depictions of natural scenes and God's creatures and often gave her art to lucky friends and family members. She was a generous and dedicated individual who supported several charities. She was an active and dedicated member of the Our Lady of the Lake in Hendersonville.
Her funeral service will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville on September 14, 2015 at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Jayme Johnson Smith Endowment, c/o GFWC Women's Club of Hendersonville, P.O. Box 813, Hendersonville, TN 37077-0813 (to fund nursing scholarships) or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Hendersonville Hospital Critical Care Unit for their care, effort and professionalism.
