James Patton

James Thomas Patton, born October 21, 1923 to parents Roy R. Patton and Birdie Thomas Patton in Hickman, TN, passed away on April 23, 2022. James was 98 years old and was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Howard Patton, and sons James T. Patton Jr. and Philip R. Patton.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Renfro Patton; son, David M. Patton; daughter-in-laws, Heather H. Patton and Susan D. Patton; grandchildren: Ben, Elisabeth, Julia, Katherine, and Hannah; six great grandsons and one great granddaughter.

James served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1939 – 1945, fighting in WWII aboard the USS Texas, the USS West Point, and the USS Trevor throughout the European, North-Atlantic, Pacific, and Asiatic arenas. After the war, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Nashville, TN for 40 years. Following his retirement from the Post Office, he worked for Sears for an additional twelve years.

An avid outdoorsman and golfer, James always had a story or adventure to share, including those two times he shot a hole-in-one! He was a member of First Baptist Church Hendersonville, where he also exercised religiously each week. He was a devoted family man and his easy smile, quick wit, and natural charm will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 10:00am – 12:00pm, with the memorial service following at 12:00pm at First Baptist Church Hendersonville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Place Ministries (P.O.
