James Edward "Ned" Benz, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on September 21, 2024, at the age of 75. Ned was born on August 30, 1949 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late William Benz, Jr. and Margaret "Peggy" Benz. He graduated from Litton High School in the Class of 1967 and later attended Western Kentucky University.
Ned shared kindness and humor everywhere he went. Humor was his superpower. What he would want to be most remembered for is how big his heart was. He would've given his last dollar to anyone who needed it, just like his daddy.
Ned enjoyed being outdoors. He loved spending time on the lake, fishing, dove hunting, and duck hunting. He also enjoyed reading, watching movies, and was a music lover all of his life. He had a big love for all of his pets.
Most of all, Ned loved spending time with "his girls."
Ned is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Benz; his daughters, Leslee Benz Engle and Savannah Benz Smith (Ryan); his grandchildren, Lyla Beth, Opal, and Nolie; his brothers, William "Bill" Benz, Gary Benz (Diane), and Curtis Benz (Leanne); his cherished pets—Joey, Bea, Benny, and Zazu; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Johanna Benz, and his nephew, Wade Benz.
Friends and family are invited to honor Ned's life during a visitation held on September 30, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM, taking place at the Community Church located at 381 W Main St, Hendersonville, TN 37075.
Ned Benz will be remembered not only for his commitment to his family but also for the warmth and joy he shared with everyone he met. His presence will be profoundly missed, yet his spirit will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
