James Wayne Collins, age 81 of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away on December 6, 2023.  He was the 11th child of 12 born on November 3rd, 1942 in Trosper, Kentucky to the late Dora and Wayne J Collins.  James is survived by wife, Betty Collins; daughter, Tina Schlaine Williams (Jacob); grandchildren, Lennon Edward Payne II (Allison) and Regan Schlaine Payne (Cody); great-grandchildren, Lennon Edward “Trip” Payne III and Emery Chloe Payne; and siblings, Beloise Rice and Herman Collins (Blanche).

James attended Kay Jay Elementary School in Kay Jay, Kentucky and then went on to graduate from Knox Central High School in Barbourville, Kentucky.  He was baptized in Brush Creek/Warren, Kentucky in 1957.  A proud and dedicated member of the United States Army, James served his country with honor and distinction. 

James had a gift for writing and singing gospel songs.  He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend.  James enjoyed sharing stories about his childhood and his love of the Kentucky mountains with his family.  The proudest achievement of James' life was his unconditional love for his family and being a devoted to husband to his wife of 60 years.  He exemplified what it meant to be devoted and caring partner.

A private graveside service will be held at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
