James Ronald "Ronnie" Capps, age 86, passed away on April 6, 2025. Ronnie was born on March 16, 1939 to the late Malachi Wilson "Dub" Capps and Anna Lee Capps in Greenfield, Tennessee.
Growing up in Greenfield, he attended Greenfield High School, where he lettered in multiple sports and was honored as Mr. Greenfield High School.
At the young age of 18, Ronnie made the significant move to Nashville to begin his career with Western Electric. After serving honorably in the Marine Corps from 1960 until 1966 as a corporal in the 3rd rifle company, he continued his professional journey with the Bell System, dedicating an impressive 42 years of service.
A diehard fan of the University of Tennessee, Ronnie's passion for the team was unwavering. Ronnie enjoyed fishing and hunting. Later in life, Ronnie picked up a love for playing golf.
Ronnie was a family man at heart. He cherished moments spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always prioritizing family time. His warm personality and ability to connect with others left a lasting impression; he had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Ronnie truly embodied the saying that he never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie is preceded in death by his son, James Michael "Mikey" Capps.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Carol Capps; his children, Connie Angell (Rusty), Christy Croft (Mason), and Curt Capps; his step-children, Anthony Ventura (Heidi), Daniel Ventura (Alex), and Dina Ventura (April); his grandchildren, Erik Upshaw (Rosa), Aaron Upshaw (Kristin), Macey Croft, Shelby Croft, Landon Croft, Haley Capps (Brian), Austin Capps; his step-grandchildren, Clara Ventura, Amelia Ventura, Gia Ventura, Sterling Ventura, and Avis Shipman; his great grandchildren, Cameron, Norah, Amelia, and Jackson; along with his dearly loved cousins from Greenfield, Tennessee.
The remembrance of Ronnie’s life will take place with visitation and funeral services at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 353 E Main St, Hendersonville, TN 37075. Visitation will be held on April 13, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers or Wounded Warrior Project in Ronnie's memory.
