Colonel (retired) James Howard Bowman passed away on November 2, 2024. Jim Bowman, son of John and Melva Bowman, was born on April 23, 1938, in Newport, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bowman in DeFuniak Springs, FL; brother John Bowman in Huntsville, AL; son, Jeff Bowman in Columbus, IN; daughter, Debbie Renzaglia in Franklin, TN; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and late wives, Peggy Preston Bowman, mother of his children, and Sue Marable Bowman.
Jim was raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from Messick High School in 1956, and from Georgia Tech in 1960. He entered the United States Marine Corps in September 1960, serving his country with honor for twenty-six years. Jim served overseas in Vietnam, Okinawa, and Thailand. He retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in 1986. As a civilian, he worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers in the Memphis and Nashville districts, as Chief of Navigation and Dredging and Nashville District Chief of Emergency Management.
Fishing, hunting, and golfing, were his passions. Being with his family, friends, and pets, topped his list of enjoyment. His "always ready" smile and happy demeanor will be sadly missed.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Hendersonville Memory Gardens in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
