Jack Lester Madden, Jr., age 88, of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away on January 14, 2025. Jack was born on July 24,1936 to the late Jack Lester Madden, Sr. and Lucille Lowenhaupt Madden.
He was educated at Christian Brothers High School and went on to attend Memphis State University. Jack’s commitment to service extended beyond education; he was an active member of the Free and Accepted Masons Memphis No. 118 in Memphis, Tennessee, and was a member of the American Legion. His dedication to these organizations exemplified his values of community and brotherhood. Upon enlisting, Jack was sent to the U.S. Army Language School in Monterey, CA (for foreign languages), served in the U.S. Air Force Security Service, and the U.S. Air Force Air Reserves.
Jack loved to travel and traveled often to the beaches on the Gulf Coast. He treasured his walks on the beach admiring the landscape, the everchanging waterscapes, the sunrises and sunsets. Jack and Delene enjoyed various cruises after retirement. He also enjoyed spending time on the lake taking in the scenery from his boat. He watched many hours of football, basketball, and golf. Jack took great pleasure in watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play soccer or any other activity they chose to participate in. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Jack is survived by his devoted children, Jenifer O'Briant (Stonie), Jackie Madden, and Bart Madden (Angie). His beloved brother, Ben Madden (Mazie), along with his cherished nephews, Michael Madden (Paige) and John Madden (Wendy), and niece, Diane Russell, also survive him. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Kristen Fickeisen (Shawn), Lindsey Johnson (Tyler), Meredith O'Briant, Casey Madden, Bo Madden (Ashley), and Taylor Madden. Jack was also blessed with great-grandchildren, including Jade O'Briant, Lily O'Briant, Russell Hall, Sutton Hall, Lucy Cate O'Briant, Cole Bonvillain, Lucas Meissner, and Katelynn Madden.
In addition to his immediate family, Jack is fondly remembered by numerous extended family members, friends, and the cherished community of the Thursday morning breakfast club. He was also a valued member of his church family at Hendersonville First United Methodist Church.
Jack is now reunited with his wife of 61 years, Nelda Delene Madden, as well as his parents, who preceded him in death. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on January 29, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 353 E Main St, Hendersonville, TN 37075. Following visitation, a funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Shriners Children's Hospitals or Hendersonville First United Methodist Church.
Jack Lester Madden, Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering spirit and his commitment to family. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
