J. M. Ditmore passed away at Alive Hospice of Nashville on July 21, 2015 after an extended illness. Born on June 1, 1938 in Athens, TN, he was predeceased by his wife, Betty Marie ("Ree") Jones Ditmore; his parents, Frank M. and Eleanor Carter Ditmore; and a sister, Sarah Ditmore Cooper (Vernon). He is survived by two children, Ann Ditmore Brown and Charles Ditmore; five grandchildren, Richard Neal (Kim), Carolyn Neal Donica (Luke), Christopher Neal (Sheena), Kevin Ditmore and Chase Ditmore; six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Kay Ditmore Martin (Larry).
J. M. was a graduate of Clarksville High School (Class President) and attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he, like his father before him played football (All SEC in his sophomore year). He was a Korean War veteran and also played football for the U.S. Army. He also played on the Senior Softball Team in Hendersonville, TN, coached Little League football there and was an avid golfer.
For most of his career, J. M. was an Account Representative for major freight lines operating in the Nashville area, and he is retired from the Nashville Metropolitan Government. He was a member of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, the POE Williams Sunday School Class of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville and VFW Post 9851, also of Hendersonville.
Funeral services will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home on July 25, 2015 at 2 p.m. with visitation for friends and family from 12 p.m.- 2 p.m., preceding the funeral. Pallbearers are Richard Neal, Christopher Neal, Lewis Johnson, Bill Howard, Mack Linebaugh, Larry Allison, Grady Dyal, Ted Potter, Robert Ogg, Jimmy Selph, and Morrell Boyd. Honorary pallbearers are members of the POE Williams Sunday School Class, the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, and the Clarksville High School Class of 1956.
